Season Of Turn Around For Rangers Has Come – Commissioner
The newly appointed Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Enugu state, Honorable Lloyd Ekweremadu, has said that the season of the positive turnaround has come for the ‘Flying Antelopes’, Rangers International F.C. Enugu
Ekweremadu made this pronouncement during a visit to players and officials of the club at the players’ residential camp, Nkponkiti, Independence Layout, Enugu, recently, to familiarise himself with the team as they departed the coal city for a close-camping exercise in Awka, Anambra state.
He praised the management, coaches, players, and other backroom staff of the club for all they have been doing to ensure that the club maintains its top status in the football club committee while aspiring to enhance its marketability in the corporate world.
“Regarding the welfare of the team, the ministry is in talks with the new G.M/CEO who is fantastic on the job and I believe that what he is coming up with will take the club to the level it rightly belongs. Soon, a number of partners and sponsors would be unveiled to ensure that Rangers is truly celebrated as an international brand,” stated the youthful commissioner.
He promised the team that with the government’s arrangement with the contractor handling the rehabilitation of the playing turf of Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, the team shall play most of its home games in the NPFL 2023/2024 season at ‘The Cathedral’.
In a brief remark while welcoming the commissioner on behalf of the G.M/CEO, Barrister Amobi Ezeaku, Administrative Secretary of Rangers, Barrister Ferdinand Ugwuarua, congratulated the new commissioner for his appointment while appealing for support from the ministry to help it overcome some challenges being faced in the running of the club.
On the commissioner’s entourage was the Director, Organising in the ministry, Bonny Onovo, and other staff.

Iwobi Optimistic On S’Eagles Qualification
Iwobi spoke to Tidesports source ahead of Nigeria’s crunch playoff semi-final against Gabon on Thursday, November 13, in Rabat, Morocco.
The 28-year-old was reacting to Nigeria’s shaky World Cup qualifying campaign that saw the Eagles finish second in Group C behind South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
“We’ve managed to rescue ourselves from the dead,” Iwobi told Tidesports source.
We know we have the players and the abilities to compete against any other country in the world.”
The Fulham star pointed to Nigeria’s star power, highlighting African Footballer of the Year winners Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen as proof of the squad’s quality.
“We have last year’s African best player (Ademola Lookman), the year before that (Victor Osimhen),” he said.
“It’ll be a shame if we don’t make it, but we have a lot of confidence. We just have to prove it to ourselves.”
Nigeria’s path to the United States, Canada and Mexico has been turbulent, with two coaches departing during the early stages of qualifying before Éric Chelle steadied the ship to steer the Super Eagles into November’s CAF playoffs.
Four nations from the continent – Nigeria, Cameroon, DR Congo and Gabon – will vie for a solitary spot to compete in next March’s inter-confederation playoffs, with a view to joining the already nine qualified African nations at the Finals.
It would mark Iwobi’s second appearance at the World Cup Finals and the Super Eagles’ first since the 2018 edition of the competition.
Back then, Iwobi featured in all three games as Nigeria was knocked out in the group stage.
