‘Onuchuku, Best Gift To Ajuru Varsity’
Students of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Port Harcourt have described the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Okechuku Onuchuku, as the best thing that has happened to the institution since its creation.
The students bared their minds on the managerial skills of Onuchuku when they spoke seperately in exclusive interviews with The Tide at the Rumuolumeni Campus of the institution, yesterday.
A student who gave his name as Ikechi Amadi at the Department of Hunanites, said the Acting Vice Chancellor has so far proven that he is an astute transformer and a goal-getter.
Amadi, who anchored his argument on the recent accreditation of programmes and Faculties, noted that it only takes a determined leader to achieve such feat.
According to him, the delegation of the Nigeria Universities Commission (NUC), were pleased with what they saw on ground, hence the urgency in doing the needful.
Another student, Charles Didia of English Department, recalled that the School’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Department was rated among the best in the country.
Didia said the ICT Department has over 100 functional computers with state-of-the-art internet systems.
About some internal complaints in the campus, he said those behind it were those that are finding it difficult to cope with the Vice Chancellor’s 21st century leadership acumen.
The student expressed regrets some people could be that desperate to only achieve personal gains without recourse to the collective good of the entire people.
“Those muddling water in the school, if you ask me, are those who cannot have their ways as usual. Go round the school, everything in the school is functioning. Some staff stay up till 10 pm every night to ensure that we have light and water before they will live”, he said.
Others who pleaded anolmity said Onuchuku has so far taken the University beyond its limit via his open door policy and transparent leadership style.
They also recalled how the VC has personally fought indecent dressing and social vices to a stand-still in the institution.
