NGF President Lauds Ganduje For Upholding Club Status
President, Nigeria Golf Federation, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, has commended Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State for upholding the status of Kano Club.
The Kano State Bureau for Land Management had reportedly notified the club managers that the title of the club, which was issued April 6, 1979, for a term of 40 years, had expired April 6, 2019.
Reacting to a statement by the Kano State Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Mallam Muhammad Garba, Runsewe said the development came as cheery news to the golf community in Nigeria.
Runsewe, who also doubles as the Director-General, National Council for Arts and Culture, stated that the Nigerian golf community was apprehensive when the news filtered in because of the strategic position of the club, which is one of the oldest golf courses in West Africa.
He said the NGF, Nigerian golfers and the golf world were excited by the swift response of the Kano State Government.
“On behalf of the golf community in Nigeria, I salute the courage and statesmanship of His Excellency as exhibited in taking this bold decision.”
Runsewe assured that golfers in Kano would continue to operate within the ambit of the laws of the land.
