FRSC Bans Unauthorised Number Plates For Campaigns
The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Rivers State Sector Command, has condemned in its entirety the use of unauthorised number plates by some political party supporters in the state, and has subsequently banned it.
State Sector Commander, Salisu Galadunci, placed the ban in a press release signed by the Deputy Route Commander and Acting Sector Public Education Officer, DRC Juliana Eni, and made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt, yesterday.
Galadunci noted with dismay the act by persons who he described as overzealous political party supporters using number plates with insignia and picture of candidates on it.
According to him, the act may constitute not just a security threat, but also encourage lawlessness in the State.
Stressing the need to discontinue the act, he said, “my attention was drawn to this unwanted and lawless act going on in the State among some uninformed political parties’ supporters. It is not right, it is unlawful and regrettable”.
While noting that any violation of this kind would be met with serious sanctions, Galadunci warned those concerned to immediately desist by removing such number plates.
The State FRSC boss appealed to the leadership of political parties to warn their followers against committing such acts, advising, however, that supporters could follow the normal procedure of procuring such number plates should they become necessary.
Galadunci used the opportunity to call for partnership by other security agencies in the State in the fight against the misdemeanor.
