Wike Vows To Award Opobo Ring Road Contract Before May 29 …Debunks Reports Of Ordering Removal Of PDP Flags
The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has promised to award the contract for the construction of Opobo Ring Road in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area before he leaves office on May 29, 2023.
Wike’s administration linked the ancient Ibani Kingdom for the first time by road to other parts of the state in over 150 years of its history.
Receiving the newly defected All Progressives Congress (APC) Publicity Secretary, Warisenibo Chris Finebone; and the former state Chairman of the party, Chief Davies Ibiamu Ikanya; in his residence, last Thursday evening, Wike said, “I will award the contract for the Opobo Ring Road and ensure that the money to pay is made available before I leave office in May, 2023.
The governor, whose promise was in response to comments by Finebone, said, “It is God that has made your son to be the governorship candidate of our party. The same God will make him win to His glory. I did not plan it but God did it. Opobo people should be thanking God for His mercies,” Wike declared.
Wike called on the people to close ranks and support the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to win all seats in the 2023 elections.
He also used the opportunity to debunk the fake news that he had ordered that the PDP flags be removed at the Government House and any other place of importance.
“You can imagine the kind of fake news people bandy about. I don’t waste my time on such falsehood,” he said.
Earlier in a letter, dated August 12, 2022, titled, “Resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC)”, and addressed to the APC Ward 6 Chairman, Senibo Raymond Finebone, the former APC spokesman said, “Above subject matter refers.
“Permit me to inform you that I have formally resigned my membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with immediate effect.
“I am not one to go public with the reasons for my resigning from the APC just as I did not give anyone reasons for joining the party. However, all I can say for now is encapsulate in the words of a 17th Century British poet and dramatist, John Dryden:
‘Must I at length the Sword of Justice draw?
Oh curst Effects of necessary Law!
How ill my Fear they by my Mercy scan,
Beware the Fury of a Patient Man.’
“I thank you for the time we shared.
“Accept my regards always”.
Also speaking immediately after subscribing to the New Rivers SIM, last Thursday, Finebone said, “I have left the APC, and I have left. Life is full of surprises and this is one of them… And they will continue to see more surprises in the coming days.”
