Seek Help To Tackle Insecurity, Expert Tells Buhari

A security expert, Col. Yomi Dare (rtd) has listed series of measures that can be taken by President MuhammaduBuhari-led Federal Government to tackle growing security challenges in the country.
Dare, who is also the chief executive officer, International Masters Security System, gave the advicein an interview with newsmen, yesterday, in Lagos.
He advocated that the Federal Government should seek the aid of the international community in tackling the nation’s security challenges as part of the measures.
According to him, introducing global initiative into the context by getting the international community’s aid would help to stabilise the situation and end insurgency.
“We have a serious security situation on our hands and what we have been advocating is that security is everybody’s business, both the government and the citizens.
“We all have our roles to play and we all need to do everything that is possible to ensure that the security situation in our country is improved and better than what we are experiencing right now.
“Getting the help of the international community will go a long way at tackling our security issues,” he said.
Dare said that people should endeavour to ‘say something, when they see something’, noting that security was, indeed, everybody’s business.
He said that there was no one fix-it-all solution to solving our insecurity issues, and urged the Federal Government to do everything possible on its part to strengthen the nation’s security architecture.
“They should provide the necessary funds, necessary equipment and necessary personnel to fight insecurity and at the same time, ensure a lot of awareness.
“This can be done by deploying technology such as putting CCTV cameras to give an accountable record of situations as they happen in real time and the use of drones for aerial monitoring,” he said.
Dare said that the government should try to gather intelligence on villages around railway lines so that information can easily be disseminated when terrorists come around.
“I’m a strong advocate of community policing because I believe that people securing us should come from within and since they have a better knowledge of the terrain.
“By so doing, we will have accurate information of what to do at any given point in time,” Dare said.

HoS Hails Fubara Over Provision of Accommodation for Permanent Secretaries

The Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has commended Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for approving befitting accommodation for Permanent Secretaries in the state.

According to the Head of Service, Governor Fubara has continued to demonstrate uncommon commitment to the welfare of civil servants in Rivers State, stressing that such gestures underscore his people-oriented leadership style. She urged civil servants across the state to remain supportive of the governor’s administration in order to sustain good governance and effective public service delivery.

Speaking on behalf of the Body of Permanent Secretaries, Dr. Brown congratulated Governor Fubara on the occasion of his 51st birthday, describing him as “a Governor who leads by serving.”

She further praised the governor’s service-driven and people-centred leadership approach, noting that it has significantly contributed to institutional stability and improved efficiency within the state’s public service. Special appreciation was expressed for the approval of a befitting accommodation complex for Permanent Secretaries, which she said reflects the governor’s commitment to staff welfare and enhanced productivity.

As part of activities to mark the governor’s birthday, the Body of Permanent Secretaries announced the sponsorship of 329 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for indigent students across the state.

A breakdown of the initiative shows that 319 forms will be distributed across the 319 political wards in Rivers State, while five forms are allocated to non-indigenes and five forms to persons living with disabilities.
