Yuletide: NSCDC Deploys 1,500 Personnel In Rivers
The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Rivers State Command, said it has deployed 1,500 personnel to various parts of the state in order to enable the people have a hitch-free Yuletide celebration, tomorrow.
This was contained in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Mr Michael Oguntuase, and made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt, last Wednesday.
The statement reads, “Ahead of the 2021 Christmas and New Year celebrations, the state command of the NSCDC has assured residents in the state of a hitch-free celebration.
“The command has deployed a total of 1,500 of its personnel to all identified flaw points, recreation centres, worship centres and the various locations where the critical national assets and infrastructure are located in the state”, it stated.
The statement also quoted the state Commandant, Aliyu Bature, as assuring not to allow any stone unturned, but to be on red alert before, during and after the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
It further called on residents not to fail to report all matters that could escalate and hamper free movement of persons during the season for prompt redress.
“The command is open to receive complaints on matters that could cause security breach before, during and after the celebrations”, it added.
According to the statement, “all lovers of peace in the state are encouraged to report strange movements around them to the nearest security posts for prompt action.
“The Peace and Conflict Resolution Unit of the formation has embarked on peace movement from ward-to-ward, encouraging residents to report cases that could escalate and degenerate into serious conflicts to the command in time”.
It also hinted that the Counter-Terrorism and Disaster Management Team of the command has since commenced surveillance patrol round the state to ensure that no security breach of any kind occurs during the celebrations.
“Residents are also encouraged to avoid the storing of adulterated/Illegally refined petroleum products as well as their use of adulterated DPK (kerosene) in residential areas to avoid fire disaster”, it said.
The statement did not spare parents and guardians as it advised them to keep an eye on their children/wards against night movements and indiscriminate use of firecrackers in residential areas, and added that the command would not hesitate to arrest defaulters.
The nefarious act of illegal bunkering and vandalism in the state was not left out, as the command called on perpetrators and their sponsors to have a rethink and find something noble to do, rather than engaging in illegal activities.
