Bayelsa Revenue Chief Commends, Tasks CITN Members On Professionalism
The Executive Chairman, Bayelsa State Internal Revenue Service, Dr Nimibofa Ayawei, has charged members of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) to continue practising their profession in consonance with the ethics of the profession.
Ayawei who scored the professional body high on their partnership and services to the state, handed down the charge at the 2021 annual dinner and investiture of the new executives of the CITN, Yenagoa and District society in Yenagoa, the state capital.
The Bayelsa Internal Revenue Service boss who spoke as chairman of the occasion, noted that the state revenue service under his leadership has benefited immensely from the expertise and professional services of the CITN.
He acknowledged the contributions of the institute’s members, saying that through the professional practice of members, more and better experience would be achieved for societal growth by members.
He commended the out-gone Chairman of the Yenagoa and District society of the organisation, Mr Nengimote Ayerite for his exemplary and sacrificial leadership qualities put in the organisation, just as he noted that the state through the revenue service office has shored up its revenue base due to the CITN fruitful partnership.
“I thank each and every member of the CITN for your services to the state.My office have a large number of your members rendering services to the state.
“The Bayelsa internal revenue service is one agency that has benefited and has continued to reap from the partnership with the CITN.
“But one thing I must say is that it’s not just enough to say that you’re in an organisation just for the sake of socialisation. You must practise, and practise your profession professionally so that you can benefit from the gains in it.
“I thank the outgoing executive for the services rendered to our state. I charge you to continue in this direction as we look forward to even a better and greater partnership in the years ahead”, he said.
Also speaking, the out-gone Chairman, Mr Nengimote Ayerite enumerated some of the achievements of the out-gone executive as the acquisition of land for the building of the CITN permanent secretariat in the state as well as the granting of approval by the national body of the organisation for the Yenagoa and District society study centre, amongst others.
Those invested as executives were Sir Robert Lokoson, chairman, Mr Azebi Bestman, vice chairman, Akpe Oyinkarebai, deputy Vice chairman and Mr Raphael Opuofoni, general secretary.
Others are Mrs Ebiware Esther, honorary treasurer, Diete Filatei, assistant general secretary, Nengimote Ayerite, ex-officio one, Adeniyi Arepo, social/publicity secretary, Tonye Apiri, ex-officio two and Mr Ayebaenemi Jumbo as financial secretary, respectively.
Highpoints of the event included awards bestowed on various individuals by the CITN, among whom were the Sole Administrator, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr Effiong Okon Akwa and the Director of Finance and Personnel Management, Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Mr Isaac Yalah, among others.

The Lead Pastor at Jesus Appointed People’s Bible Church, Ozogbe, Ikwerrengwo-Etche, in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, Pastor Promise Nwaelele, has urged Christians to make God the anchor of their lives in whatever position they find themselves, in order to attain the destinies set for them by God.
Pastor Nwaelele, who gave the charge recently in a sermon he preached at the 70th birthday anniversary thanksgiving service of Sir Donald Michael Jaja, a veteran journalist in Rivers State, said this is because any genuine child of God is a permanent target for destabilization and destruction by the devil.
Taking his text from the Bible book of Mark 4:16-17, the preacher stated that fulfilment in life for a child of God required faith, obedience to God’s word, humility and grace to withstand trials and temptations.
According to him, temptations and afflictions are bound to happen in the lives of those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
“No wonder the Bible said that those that endure till the end shall be saved”, he said.
The Clergyman said God prospers believers who are humble, not proud and conceited, and leads them to destiny fulfilment.
“David said in Psalm 51:17, that the sacrifices acceptable to God are a broken spirit, not an impatient or proud spirit”, the preacher said.
He called on Christians not to allow persecutions and afflictions to sway them from the love and blessings of Jesus Christ.
On his part, Jaja, a seasoned Journalist who retired as an Acting Editor of the Rivers State Government-owned The Tide Newspaper, gave thanks to God for honouring him by giving him the grace of attaining 70 years.
“I cannot capture what the good Lord has done for me in my entire life in this fleeting moment of thanksgiving. But, I know that without Him, I wouldn’t have been who I am today, in all spheres. Therefore, my joy knows no bounds as I give thanks to my creator today, alongside my family. Praise be His holy name”, Jaja said.
