Insecurity: Political Scientist Sues For Peace In Imo
A political scientist in Imo State and former Legal Adviser of Ikeduru Local Government Council, Hon. Sunny Osondu, has sued for peace in the state, going by the security challenges engulfing the state in recent times.
Speaking with journalists recently on the current upsurge in Umueze-Atta, Osondu reiterated that years back, Imo State was adjudged to be one of the most peaceful States in Nigeria, and wondered why the level of insecurity being witnessed in the state.
He used the opportunity to sympathise with families of all those who lost their loved ones both the security operatives in the line of duty and civilians who were victims of extra-judicial killings arising from the high level of insecurity bedeviling the state and the entire South-East region.
He called on the security operatives drafted to the state to carry out their legitimate duties in consonance with globally accepted standard practices which are aimed at protecting lives and property of all citizens in the state, appealing to all those responsible for the unrest to sheathe their swords to enable the state bounce back as one of the most peaceful states in the country in order to allow its people to collectively build the collapsed system as a result of insecurity.
The political icon, described the level of insecurity in the state in particular and the South-East region in general as alien to the area, adding that Igbo people are not known to be violent but rather industrious and hardworking.
On attack on public institutions, Osondu condemned in its entirety the attacks on public institutions and facilities in the state and in the South-East in general, adding that Imo State collectively belongs to all, hence, destroying public properties does not make sense or solve problems.
He, however, called on the youths to desist from being used as ‘canon fodders’ in the hands of enemies of the state to cause mayhem, rather should engage themselves in meaningful ventures that will put food on their tables as future leaders.
Meanwhile, Hon. Sunny Osondu has admonished Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma to, as a matter of urgency, protect the people of the state against all manners of insecurity, crimes and criminality, such as, killings, kidnapping, armed robbery, rituals and domestic violence against women and the girl-children, saying that the protection of citizens remain the duty of any responsible government, urging the people to support the government to achieve the desired development results for the betterment of all and sundry in the state, where peace and progress will thrive.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
