Students Lament Sex For Grades At PH Poly
Some female students of the Port Harcourt Polytechnic, Rumuola in Rivers State, have lamented the spate of sexual harassment going on in the institution by lecturers and called on the management to rise up to the occasion and ensure that such act is stopped and protect the female students in the school.
This alarm is coming few days after the Rector of the institution, Dr Samuel B Kalagbor during the visit by members of the House of Assembly Committee on Education to the institution, recently.
Kalagbor had during the over- sight function visit said the management had put in place measures to check sexual harassment of female students by lecturers for award of marks ,adding that any lecturer found culpable of committing such an act would be sanctioned in accordance with the institution’s regulations and rules
However, some female students of the institution who spoke to The Tide in an interview at the campus over the weekend, said they were being harassed sexually by the male lecturers .
According to them, the females were being victimised and oppressed for sex and that those who refused them were made to fail.
“Some lecturers will tell you that they don’t want your money but your body. Honestly, there are some female students who like this pattern but those who do not want to play the ball are punished. Some students who are victims of this harassment are often afraid to report because nobody will protect them. Let the school management do something in this regard to stop it, “they stated.
Effort to reach the Rector of the polytechnic for comment proved abortive as he refused to respond to the text messages and calls from our correspondent on the matter.
