GPI Calls For Gender Balance
A non-governmental organization, Girl’s Power Initiative (GPI), has sued for a level playing ground for women in the business world.
The Rivers State coordinator, Mrs Benedicta Itta, made this appeal at an event to celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD), in Port Harcourt, Saturday.
Itta, who was speaking on the theme for this year’s celebration, “Balance for Better”, noted that all over the world, women had achieved great heights in the financial world and should be given equal opportunities as their male counterparts to improve on their achievements.
She also said, “women have been financial managers of the home, with their meagre earnings, they should be empowered just as their male counterparts”.
She observed that, women had contributed immensely, achieving many developmental strides in their chosen professions.
Furthermore, Itta stated that women were also employers of labour and had clearly demonstrated their capabilities in managing businesses and other endeavours that they found themselves in.
She said GPI was a non-governmental organisation aimed at galvanising information, skills and capacity of young women and girls for better outcome.
She also noted that women had come a long way in their struggle to measure up with their male counterparts both as employees and captains of industry.
Itta lamented the restrictions placed on women in some professions and called for balance in the scheme of things.
