Collapsed Building: Geologist Denies Soil Test Claim …As Commision Contracts Independent Soil Test Expert
The Geologist who conducted the soil test for the collapsed seven-storey building at GRA Woji axis in Port Harcourt last year, Mr Daniel Kelechi Erekosima, has revealed that he was contracted to carry a soil test for a storey building and not seven-storey.
Mr Erekosima who said that the contract was given to him in 2012 by one Ade an associate to the owner of the building, Sir Joseph Alagoa and not the architect, stated that Mr Ade took him to the swampy land when the area was lying fallow and virgin.
He made this assertion when he appeared before the panel of inquiry to give evidence on his roles in the collapsed building during the commission’s sitting in Port Harcourt Monday.
He told the commission that he conducted the soil test in accordance with his geology profession, adding that he made recommendations based on the outcome of the test conducted.
According to him, his recommendations were based on a storey building at the range of 1.0 to 2.5 meters deep and added that there was no how he could have based his recommendations on one storey building, if he was contracted for seven storey building.
“One Ade contracted the soil test to me and told me that the building was for a storey building. There is no how I would have carried my test on a storey if it was for seven storey”, he added.
Mr Daniel who insisted that the proposed building plan at the collapsed building site was a one storey building and not seven, adding that he also attached his contract numbers on the certificate of the soil text for further consultation in case there was going to be any envisaged future problems on the site.
“Nobody reached me again since 2012 when I submitted the soil test which was an indication that the soil test was not the problem because I attached my phone numbers for feed backs but never gotten any”, he added.
