Our Target Is To Discover Young Footballers – Organisers
The organisers of the under 10 and 12 football Festival, Excel Sports, holding in Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt, says the tournament was geared toward teaching children the basics of the round lather game.
Head Coach of Rivers Angels FC of Port Harcourt, Edwin Okon who is also one of the organising committee members said the competition is also to give young players a level playing ground and to expose their talents.
Okon said this while briefing sports journalist shortly after the opening ceremony of the football festival at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium over the weekend in Port Harcourt.
He explained that the tournament is aimed at catching them young.
Okon further appeal to well-meaning individuals to support the grassroots football, adding that a lot of young players have interest but the exposure is not there.
“Many children will be selected from the competition, and they will be given opportunity to play in other academy outside Nigeria” he said.
Also speaking a player from Hollando Football Academy in Port Harcourt, Micheal Godspower thank the organisers of the competition for giving him the opportunity to showcase his talent saying, that he is optimistic that his club will win the tournament.
Earlier a player of Dominion Sports Club, Bright Kiadum stated that his team will not fail to win the competition.
He commended Excel Sports for bringing his dream come alive to play in the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt.
