Council Recommits To Ban On Illegal Revenue Agents
Following the unabating activities of touts at the Rumuokoro Roundabout axis of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, the council has restated its stand on the ban on touting in the name of revenue agents for the LGA.
Making the council’s stand known while speaking to newsmen in Port Harcourt, recently the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the council, Mr Paddy Wali, said the clarification became necessary following complaints by some motorists that some taskforce people from Obio/Akpor were harassing and extorting money from them.
Wali, who spoke through his press secretary, Buduka Waliogba, disclosed that any such taskforce found around Rumuokoro and other parts of the local government area were not constituted by the council.
He, however, called on motorists to report anyone found to the police or the council authorities.
“Let me reaffirm our position that the council has not constituted any committee whatsoever to deal with motorists”, he said.
According to him, those involved in the practice are not from Obio/Akpor Local Government, adding that the CTC boss had earlier in the year dissolved all committees, including road committees.
“We have not reappointed anyone to do that, all those who stand on the road to harass motorists and others do so at their own risk”, he said.
He further appealed to security agencies to apprehend such persons as the LGA was not part of their illegal activities.
