Buhari Arrives New York For UN Assembly
President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday morning, arrived New York, United States of America, ahead of the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The president’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, confirmed this development in his twitter page, yesterday.
Buhari had departed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, Saturday for New York, where he would attend the UN General Assembly, slated to commence, today.
A statement earlier issued by Adesina in Abuja, said the president while in New York, will deliver Nigeria’s statement at the opening of the General Debate of the Assembly, on the theme: “The Sustainable Development Goals: A Universal Push to Transform our World”.
He said that Buhari would also deliver a keynote address on, “Taking Climate Action Towards Sustainable Development in Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin”.
Adesina explained that the president would also attend a high-level summit, hosted by the UN, on “Large Movements of Refugees and Migrants’’.
According to him, while in New York for the annual gathering of world leaders, Buhari will also attend series of meetings as well as side events, which are of significant interest to Nigeria.
Buhari and his US counterpart, President Barack Obama, will meet, tomorrow in New York, to discuss a number of bilateral issues, on the sidelines of the US leader’s final appearance at the UN General Assembly session.
The 71st UN General session will be Buhari’s second appearance since he assumed office as Nigeria’s president on May 29, 2015.
