‘We Contained 70 Fire Incidents In Five Months’
The Delta State Commis
sioner for Special Duties, Mr Chika Ossai, said the state’s fire service contained 70 fire incidents in Asaba, the state capital, between November, 2015 and March, 2016.
The commissioner said that 62 incidents were recorded in Warri, 58 in Agbor and 30 in Sapale within the period.
“The major causes of the fire incidents are faulty electrical appliances and connections as well as bush burning.
“Because of the proactive measures it adopted, the state fire service was able to save lives and property worth millions of naira within the period.
Ossai said that the state had 19 fire service stations with 16 functional fire vehicles to contain fire outbreaks across the 25 local government areas of the state.
He called on the people to use the right materials in building construction and engage experts for the installation of electrical devices in their buildings to avoid fire outbreaks.
The commissioner also advised against bush burning and other act capable of causing fire outbreaks.
He further urged the people to promptly contact the fire service during any occurrence, giving clear descriptions of the areas.
