‘Peaceful Communities’ll Attract Govt Projects’
The Rivers State Governor,
Chief Nyesom Wike, says communities that are peaceful will attract more of government development projects than others.
Speaking through his Chief of Staff, Chief Emeka Woke at the Ahoada-East Constituency 2 intercessory prayer and thanksgiving on Friday at Upata Town, the governor said engendering peace and development in the various communities remains one of the major thrust of his administration.
He said, “Development will not elude communities that are peaceful and there is no way development can take place in an atmosphere of violence.”
The governor lauded the people of the area for the intercessory prayer towards initiating peace and harmony in the area, and promised that government will rehabilitate the Ikata/Ojegba Road.
Commending the people for the thanksgiving over the Supreme Court verdict, Wike observed that God loves gratitude, stressing that,”the thanksgiving will have no end. We will continue to thank God and identify with you.”
Ahead the re-run elections on March 19th, the governor warned the people to be wary of the antics of the opposition to cause problems in their community by ensuring they vote for the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and protect their votes on the election day.
Speaking earlier, House of Representatives candidate in the re-run elections for Ahoada-East /Abua Odual Federal Constituency, Mrs Betty Apiafi appealed on the youth to embrace peace.
Apiafi said, “We don’t want violence anymore. The blood of anybody is not worth the ambition of any of us.”
She advised Upata people and those in the constituency to shun enmity by living in harmony as brothers and sisters.
Also, member representing Ahoada-East in the House of Assembly and a candidate at the re-run elections, Hon Edison Ehie, stated that the peace initiative is to sustain the developmental strides of the Wike administration.
Calling on the people to pitch tent with the PDP, Ehie held that in the past six months, several constituency projects have been initiated, which include corpers’ lodge and town hall, among others.
He appealed to the people to sustain the development by voting for the ruling party and defending their votes on election day.
On his part, Commissioner for Education, Hon. Kaniye Ebeku, decried the recent mayhem that engulfed the area, but assured that the prayers and intercessions have put an end to the problem, as he urged the people to embrace peace.
