RSG Set To Expand Free ICT Training …Ready To Introduce More Programmes

ment says it has concluded plans to expand its free annual ICT Programme from three weeks to six weeks in a bid to accommodate more participants.
The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the State Governor on Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Engr. William ldoniboye, made this disclosure in an interview with The Tide, Monday in Port Harcourt. .
He said the initiatives were part of the government’s efforts to move the state forward through the use of Information Technology.
Idoniboye noted that a programme tagged “WHIZ KIDS BRAIN TRUST” would be introduced in order to bring ICT development closer to the youths.
According to him, the programme will host four participants from each local government area of the state, adding that a female must make the list of the four participants.
Furthermore, he hinted that the state’s robust ICT growth has earned it the opportunity to be one of the seven States chosen to participate in the 2016 – 2019 National Smart Cities Programme run by
National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
On how to go about achieving set targets, he said the department will use available resources to achieve the needful for the state.
“We will use what we have to get what we want. We also plan to redesign the training center at Aba Road, we are in meeting with Microsoft, Zenith Bank, Unitar, USAID and others to bring it back to life” – he said.
Describing his appointment as an honour and privilege, he said he will bring to table his two decades of ICT knowledge to ensure that the state has the best in terms of ICT development.

Meanwhile, he charged the IT students at the department to ensure that they come top in the forth coming Digital competition in the country.
Responding, the IT students Team Leader Sylvanus lyowuna, thanked the SSA for his mentorship as he promised, on behalf of his colleagues to do him proud at the competition.
