Banigo Tasks NGOs, Media On Teenage Pregnancy
Worried by the spate of teenage pregnancy in the state, Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo, has enjoined NGOs and the Media to Champion the Advocacy and sensitisation against teenage pregnancy in the grassroot areas.
Dr. Ipalibo Banigo made the appeal at the Bell and Bridge Crystal Foundation of the Rivers State Teenage Pregnancy Advocacy event at Government Secondary School, Elekahia, Port Harcourt.
The Deputy Governor, who was represented by her Special Assistant on Research and Social Media, Miss Uki Asemota urged parent to be actively involved in the campaign against teenage pregnancy.
“A lot of parents depend only on school teachers to teach their children sex education. This is not right. Parents should train our children the way they should go, so that when they grow up, they will not depart from it.” She remarked.
The Deputy Governor assured that the Governor Wike-led government is committed towards improving the healthcare of the people.
She noted that as a woman, mother and a physician, she is passionate about teenage Pregnancy among other issues that affect the health and total wellbeing of women and children in the state.
Dr. Ipalibo Banigo, said RSG is ready to partner everyone or Group who is genuinely working towards the eradication of teenage Pregnancy in the State to minimize the alarming rate of teenage pregnancy.
Earlier, the founder of Bell and Bridge Crystal, Mrs. Briget Osagie-Onyemenam, said the campaign on teenage pregnancy advocacy has been taken to virtually all the geo- political zones in the country and the Federal Capital Territory but that this was the very first time the campaign is brought to Rivers State.
Dignitaries present at the Event, were the Chairman Post Primary School’s Board, Hon. David Briggs, a representative of the World Health Organisation Dr. Mareghem Sylvester, Directors from the Ministry of Education and Teachers from state government and private schools in the state.
