Drivers, 147 Others Bag Jail Terms In Edo
The Federal Road Safety
Corps (FRSC) in Edo State has announced the conviction of a 46-year-old truck driver, Ifeanyi Orji, for dangerous driving and assault of its officer.
The Sector Commander of the corps, Mr Oluwasusi Familoni, told newsmen in Benin that Orji was sentenced to six months imprisonment.
Familoni said that 147 others were convicted for various traffic offences.
He said that the arrest and arraignment of the erring drivers were done during its special patrol tagged ‘’Operation Scorpion’’ in a mobile court which sat at Okhuaihe near Benin from August 4 to August 7.
He said that during the operation, a total of 166 drivers were arraigned.
‘’Orji was imprisoned for six months for dangerous driving, failure to move over, drivers licence violation, number plate violation and assaulting a marshal on duty.
“A total of 166 drivers were arraigned; 148 were convicted while 18 of them were discharged.
‘’Among the drivers were 65 truck and trailer drivers who were prosecuted for various offences.
‘’The prevalent offences were operating with false documents, drivers licence violation and tyre violation,’’ he said.
