Rotary Club Pledges To Deworm School Children
The Rotary Club of Port
Harcourt Garden City, has pledged to focus deworming of school children and provision of insecticides treated nets in the next one year.
The new president of the club, Rtn. Tonye Margaret Nria-Dappa, who made the pledge shortly after her induction in Port Harcourt, said it is the intention of the club to educate unemployed youths in special skills and crafts.
“Rotary is about rendering services above personal interest, in order to bring succor to the less privileged. We voluntarily give our time, talents and treasures to these people”, she said.
“As Rotarians, we do not simply give to mankind, we encourage the less-privileged in their legitimate pursuits while helping them actively to improve their lives in the society”, she said.
She said several community projects such as safe motherhood and child survival seminar, free eye test and treatments have been earmarked by the club to touch lives of the people.
According to her, in line with the club’s avowed commitment to servicing humanity, free visual aids would be provided for the residents of old Port Harcourt township.
Nria-Dappa also said the club under her watch would embark on membership drive as well as create the awareness that Rotary does good and is still doing good.
The president, however, called on the members of the society to partner with the club to enable it achieve set objectives.
Also speaking, the outgone President of the club, Rtn Yomi Kumoli-Johnson, thanked the members for their support throughout his service year and urged them to extend same to the new president.
