Bayelsa Lauds NULGE, NWUN For Strike Call-Off
The Bayelsa State Gov
ernment wishes to express her gratitude to the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and the Health Workers Union of Nigeria (NWUN) for shelving the planned strike and street protest over salary arrears.
This position of NULGE and HWUN to call off the strike was arrived at after several meetings with the committee set up by the Bayelsa State Government to find a lasting solution to the issue.
The Commissioner of Information, Orientation and Strategy, Barrister Esuene Dan Kikile elated with the strike call off said in a statement that “Government wishes to restate her commitment to ensuring that Local Government Councils fulfil their obligations to their workers without any further delay.
It must be noted that the present administration in the state has demonstrated its commitment to Local Government autonomy and has implemented a policy of zero deduction from Local Government Allocations.
However, Government regrets the inconveniences the delay in payment of salaries of the Local Government workers and pension for the month of May might have caused. Everything is being done to ensure payment of the outstanding salaries.
It is imperative to state that Government is already working round the clock to resolve the issue once and for all, and ensure that there is no future occurrence.
Government, acknowledges the role of workers in the development of the state, and will, therefore, not do anything to undermine this critical Sector, adding that we must continue to work for peace, even in the face of this challenge in the interest of our state”.
