AIG Assures On Tracking Down Illegal Loggers
The Assistant Inspector
General of Police (AIG) Zone 6, Tunde Ogunsanki, has promised that his Zone would continue to work in partnership with the Cross River State Forestry Commission in achieving Government objectives in conserving the forest.
He made this known when the Permanent Secretary, Cross River State Forestry Commission, Dr. Perpetua Aji, and her team paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Calabar.
AIG Ogunsanki stated that the Police were ever ready to maintain peace and order and would continue to assist the Forestry Commission whenever there is need.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary Cross River State Forestry Commission, Aji, had expressed gratitude to the AIG of Police Zone 6 for their cooperation with the Anti-Deforestation Taskforce in the past. She appealed that since the State Government has disbanded the Anti-Deforestation Taskforce, the Police Officers who are still operating as Taskforce be withdrawn and those in the habit of escorting illegal timber out of the State to desist from such acts.
Dr. (Mrs.) Aji emphasized the need for the Divisional Police officers (DPO) across the State to cooperate with the Commission’s forest guards who now have the mandate to chase illegal loggers. She, therefore, appealed to the AIG of Police to assign mobile police Officers to provide security for the forest guards while discharging their duties.
The AIG advised that the Forestr Commission should make a formal request and States the number of Police Officers they needed, he stressed that the police would make their input to ensure that Government rules and regulations are adhered to end erring Officers would be punished accordingly.
Highlight of the visit was the presentation of gift to the AIG of Police, by the Permanent Secretary as well as the presentation of souvenir to the Permanent Secretary by the AIG of Police.
The Permanent Secretary was accompanied by the following Directors: Mr. O. A. Egbai, Mr. Ekpenyong Ita, Mrs. Mary Jane Ebri and Mr. Ekpenyong Effiong.
