PH Phone Repairers Seek Govt Patronage
Global System of
Mobile Communication (GSM) repairers in Rivers State have sought the state government’s partnership in an effort to fully develop their potentials.
Some of the repairers who spoke with The Tide at the popular Garrison GSM market in Port Harcourt, on Wednesday said the government should pay more attention to them.
One of the repairers, Mr Kelechi Nwagwu, said if the state government could give them the least push, the boys in the industry would turn the state to an investors’ haven.
According to him, the business requires an up-to-date knowledge of mobile phones on daily basis, going by the continuous change in the telecommunications industry.
Nwagwu, explained that some of them find it difficult to repair some of the new products due to their complex nature.
He explained that if there are avenues to access the software used in any phone before such enter the market, the technicians could easily handle any faulty one.
Another respondent, John Otuka, said they undertake most jobs by trial and error.
He said most repair jobs are done by mere opening and cleaning of some sensitive parts without dictating the particular fault.
He noted that financial empowerment was not the best form of bailout in the country’s economy, saying that skill acquisition remains the best.
The technicians have also appealed to the Minister of Trade and Investment, Mr Olusegun Aganga, to visit the state and others which have similar markets and see how best to develop the business in the country.
