Airline Operator Tasks Stakeholders On Aviation Dev
A former Chairman of the
Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), Dr Steve Mahonwu, has advised stakeholders in the aviation sector to demonstrate their commitment to implementing the Federal Government’s aviation sector roadmap.
Mahonwu, who is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of AON, gave the advice last Thursday in an interview with newsmen in Lagos.
The aviation roadmap includes an increase in the utilisation of airports through the establishment of an Africa-focused Aircraft Leasing Business and a Nigerian national carrier.
It also includes construction and management of new produce cargo terminals and development of aircraft cities, called Aerotropolis
“Let us play less politics. Aviation is a dynamic sector and we need less politics for it to grow.’’
He also commended the Federal Government for designating 13 of its airports as perishable cargo airports.
“We are very ripe for that designation as it did not start today. It has been on for some time now.’’
He explained that where an airport was designated as a perishable cargo airport or operational zone such airport had no basis to serve as a passengers’ airport because of high cargo traffic.
“That is why airports like Owerri, Akure, Abeokuta and others had been designated as cargo airports by the Federal Government because there are many cargoes to load from those areas,’’ he stressed.
