Stakeholder Charges Institute On Zero Waste
Worried by the rate
of waste in oil palm produce in Nigeria, especially in the South-South and South-East parts of the country, a dealer in the oil palm produce in Port Harcourt, Mr. Solomon Echie, has called on the Nigerian Institute for Oil Palm Research (NIFOR) to embark on research that will achieve zero level waste from palm produce.
Speaking while interacting with The Tide in Port Harcourt, Thursday, Echie noted that he is persuaded that there are many useful by-products that can be produced from waste materials of palm produce, which are not yet known to the people.
He said that if researches of the Institute could be more focused on how to convert these by-products from oil palm, that new things will be discovered, pointing such could be useful raw materials for some industries in Nigeria.
Echie who is the Chief Executive Officer of Sonaech Oil said “There is so much that can be tapped in oil-palm technology, and a typical example is the bio-diesel”.
He said “Among the Malysians today, there is zero waste, and in NIFOR, researchers should work much harder on waste utilisation”.
According to him, in Palm production, almost all the waste are utilised in the production of other useful product, and in the present era of waste management, it has become necessary to conduct research to evolve proper waste managem4nt technologies for useful purposes.
