Seme Customs Command Generates N698m Revenue
The Nigeria Customs
Service (NCS), Seme Command, recently said it generated N698.8 million as revenue in September.
The Command’s spokesman, Mr Ernest Olottah, told newsmen in Seme that the revenue surpassed the N623.9 million generated in August by N75 million.
“The revenue for the month of September is higher than that of August because the trading activities have started picking up gradually.
“As the year comes to an end, trading activities would increase and this would increase the revenue that would be generated,” he said.
Olottah said that the Seme command generated N7,986,073,939 billion as revenue last year and slightly fell short of the N8 billion target set for it.
According to him, the command was optimistic of realising the N13 billion target set for it by the management of the service, this year.
He said that the command, also in September, made 61 seizures with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N21.4 million.
The spokesman said that among the items seized were cars, rice, vegetable oil, second hand clothes, frozen poultry products and general goods.
Olottah also said that two suspects were arrested for smuggling during the period, and would be prosecuted after a thorough investigation.
He urged Nigerians to desist from smuggling because of its adverse effect on the economy.
“We need to realise that smuggling is not good for the economy, so we must work together to save our economy and embrace legitimate trade.
“In the course of importing and exporting any product, all protocols must be followed and that includes paying levies and duties to the Nigeria Customs Service,” the spokesman added.
