Skills Acquisition: NAOC Trains 550 Youths
A total of 550 youths
from host communities across the operational areas in Imo, Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta States, have graduated from the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) 2012/2013 skills acquisition scheme, as part of its contribution towards human capacity building, youth empowerment and poverty eradication in the areas.
The Tide reports that the graduands had their training in five centres which include Rumueme and Omoku Centres  in Rivers State, Obama and Sagbama Centres in Bayelsa State and Ashaka centre in Delta State. Besides, each of the centres had 100 trainees, except Omoku Centre that had 150 trainees.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony which was marked at the respective centres, the Assistant Manager Green River Project (GRP), Sir Dan Onyeaghala, revealed that the youths had training for one year in trades like woodwork, fashion designing, computer application, welding and pipeline fitting, catering  and event management.
He commended the trainees for exhibiting good sense of discipline during the one year training period and the facilitating NGOs in the various centres for providing the technical know-how that made the trainees combatant ready for challenges ahead.
GRP boss noted that the scheme was aimed at taming down the idleness among  the youths, also engaging them in meaningful activities that would improve their economic well being.
He charged the graduands to be good ambassadors of their respective host communities by show casing the skills acquired in the scheme and in turn earn a living as a self employed entrepreneur.
In his remarks, NAOC General Manager, District, Massimo Insulla, noted that human development of the youths in the host community and the infrastructural development of the area remain in the front burner of the policy thrust of the company.
The GMD, represented by the Public Relations, Communication and Government Liaison Manager, Prince Nwachuku Obi, while commending the various community leaders at the respective centres for providing enabling environment for the successful conclusion of the training, charged the trainees to train others and use their skills to better their lot, saying that the next batch of trainees will soon be engaged.
Various representatives of Government functionaries, community leaders, Royal Fathers and representatives of Community Development Committees (CDC) at the respective Centres gave their goodwill messages and worthy advice to the trainees, as the graduands also assured to be good  Ambassadors of their respective communities.
As a way of support for the actualisation of the skill acquired, The Tide reports that NAOC empowered the graduands in various trades with a starter pack and a take-off grant, as well as a government Trade Test Certificate to authenticate the skill acquired.

														“The approved selling prices are as follows: One-bedroom semi-detached bungalow, N8.5 million; two-bedroom semi-detached bungalow: N11.5 million and three-bedroom semi-detached bungalow, N12.5 million,” the statement added.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, stated that priority in the allocation of the housing units would be given to low and middle-income earners, civil servants at all levels of government, employees in the organised private sector with verifiable sources of income, and Nigerians in the Diaspora who wish to own homes in the country.
The Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, explained that several payment options have been provided to make the houses affordable and flexible. These include outright (full) payment, mortgage, rent-to-own scheme, and installment payment plans.
The ministry further announced that the sale of the completed housing units across the northern and southern regions will soon commence.

The ministry, however, clarified that the approved prices apply strictly to the Renewed Hope Housing Estates which are funded through the ministry’s budgetary allocation, as against the Renewed Hope Cities in Karsana Abuja, Janguza Kano, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos which are being funded through a Public Private Partnership (PPP).
