Jonathan Inaugurates N’Delta Council, Today
The Federal Government said yesterday that President Goodluck Jonathan would inaugurate the National Council on Niger Delta today.
The council will serve as further efforts by government to address issues and challenges of the region.
The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Mr Godsday Orubebe, said this in Uyo during the maiden meeting of the council.
Orubebe said that the council, like any other federal establishment, would serve as a coordinating forum to address issues and challenges facing the region within its jurisdiction.
The minister explained that the council had the responsibility to approve policies, projects and programmes as well as coordinate efforts designed to drive developmental activities in the region.
“I look forward to the formal inauguration of the council by Mr President yesterday, April 26,” he said.
