Group Tasks Journalists On ICT Training
The Niger Delta Coalition Against Violence (NDCAV), has urged the 13 journalists who benefited from the Emma Anyawu Information and Communication Technology (ICT) scholarship in Port Harcourt not to toy with the opportunity.
The NDCAV president, Comrade Christian B. Lekia said while briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
Lekia, said that the ICT scholarship by the foundation was clear indication of the donor’s interest in journalism development.
He noted that the ICT training will not only bring out the best in the beneficiaries, but would expose them to windows of opportunities within and outside the state.
According to him, the offer came when journalism is going digital, while calling on other public spirited individuals and companies to key into the project and ensure that journalists in Rivers State received the best training.
He regretted that most media practitioners in the country are yet to embrace digital journalism, saying that the rest of the world may leave Nigeria behind by the 2015 deadline for full digitalization of broadcasting.
Still on the ICT training, he advised that more chances be created by the organizers of the programme in order to accommodate more journalists.
The NDCAV leader, noted that the average reporter ought to have basic knowledge of computer and its applications for effective performance.
He further appealed to the organizers to introduce tougher conditions that will control the influx of non-practicing journalists in the state into the programme, in a bid to promote the benefactors’ idea.
It would be recalled that 13 journalists in Rivers State are currently undergoing ICT training at the National Institute of Information and Technology (NIIT) in Port Harcourt.
