NIPOST Workers Protest Managerial Positions Imbalance
Crisis is brewing at the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) territorial headquarters Port Harcourt, following what some workers of the outfit termed the appreciation of juicy positions by workers from the South-East geo-political zone.
A top officer in the Port Harcourt office who spoke with our reporter in Port Harcourt, Wednesday, explained that the offices of Area Postal Manager (APM), Zonal Manager Operations (ZMO), Senior Manager Administration (SMA), and Manager Finance are occupied by people from the South-East.
Other top positions manned by people from the South-East zone are Manager Audit, Manager Expedited Mail Service (EMS), Manager Bulk Post Service (BPS), Manager Maintenance/Project (M&P), District Manager Port Harcourt and District Manager Trans-Amadi.
He also pointed that the offices of Expedited Mail Service (EMS) Manager Trans-Amadi, Manager Postal Order/Stamp Service (PO&SS), Manager Cargo Transit and Manager National Mail Route (NMR) are occupied by the easterners in the Port Harcourt Area.
He explained that the top offices were meant to be spread across the six-geopolitical zones of the country.
Though he did not give details on how the easterners annexed the offices, he said that due process must be followed in order to right the wrongs at the NIPOST offices in Rivers State.
The Tide further learnt that arrangements are in top gear to intimate the minister of communication technology Mrs Omobola Johnson, Post Master General of the Federation, Mallam Ibrahim Mori Boba and Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi about the situation.
He also stated that Rivers indigenes and others working in Port Harcourt NIPOST offices are not happy with the development, saying that adjustments should be made to avoid break down of law and order in the place.
When the manager, Public Relations NIPOST Territorial Headquarters, Port Harcourt, Mr Godwin Akpan was contacted in his office, he denied any knowledge about the situation, but promised to investigate the matter.
