One of its management staff at Port Harcourt office, told our reporter that the NCC’s office is urgently in need of some equipment to enable it function better.
According to him, it is only its Abuja office that can dish out the required information to any member of the public, saying that it is not in line with the Freedom of Information Act.
Our reporter, who wanted to know the volume of subscribers, of the various service providers reports that the information was not made available to him due to lack of equipment in the NCC office in Port Harcourt.
The Tide gathered that the organisation, (NCC) is also planning to mount a spectrum monitoring mechine.
Our investigation reveals that the mechine will aid the commission to monitor network providers individually in order to enable them sanction the erring ones.
The source maintained that without a functional spectrum mechine, the NCC cannot punish any network provider, saying that all networks are collectively monitored for now.
He further explained that the mechine will upon installation address the issue of bridging in networks and other technical issues associated with network provision.
He also noted that the Port Harcourt office will soon install a solar energy system that will enable it have a 24-hour power supply, adding that regular power outage was one of its greatest challenges.
“If all these things are on ground, we can give out any information needed by any person about the commission.
It would be recalled that the NCC office in Port Harcourt always turn back reporters and members of the public who want an information from it under the excuse that it was not in position to address issues concerning the commission.
