The Niger Delta Coalition Against Violence (NDCA), has called on the federal government to establish e-policing in order to effectively reduce crime rate in the country.
The President of the group (NDCA) Comrade Christian B. Lekia who spoke with newsmen in Port Harcourt on Thursday, said e-policing was the only solution to curb crime in the country.
Lekia said if the federal government and its agencies, can digitalize security outfits in Nigeria that hoodlum and their sponsors may have no hiding place.
He explained that most developed countries of the world now use digital system to combat crime rather than chasing after them manually.
The Niger Delta Youth leader, pointed out how the digital Police check points operated by the state Government have reduced crime in the state, adding that if the federal government can adopt same measure, that the result will be positive.
He frowned at what he described as using analogue to address digital by the security operatives, saying that unless the embrace a full digital security system, crime will not reduce in the country.
According to him, it is high time the Nation joined the league of digitalised countries in order to get its policing system and others right.
Furthermore, he appealed with the Inspector-general of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar to train his men of Information and Communication technology (ICT), to enable them meet up with the challenge ahead.
When ask why he thinks that e-policing can reduce crime rate in the country, he cited the Rivers University of science and technology Nkpolu , saying that the birth of ICT in the area, brought positive changes in all departments as well as the general system in the school.
