RSG To Evict Illegal Occupants Of Govt Properties
The Rivers State Government says it will embark on the eviction of illegal occupants of all government properties without further delay.
A notice from the office of the commissioner for Housing, Hon. Marshall Uwom has directed all the illegal occupants of government quarters to vacate with immediate effect.
Those affected by the eviction notice include those that are squatting n the quarters; retirees that are still occupying government quarters, as well as those that their stay was not approved by the appropriate authority.
The Housing commissioner had earlier stated the resolve of the state government to eject all those occupying government quarters illegally, including those that have retired from service, but do not want to leave government quarters.
Uwom had also explained that some of the retirees rather than vacate their apartment on retirement, resorted to sub-letting same to their relatives and friends, there by depriving genuine and qualified persons access to such accommodations.
Government had also explained earlier that a lot of people have taken the silence of government on this issue as licence to pride themselves in illegality, and have warned that action will be taken to ensure that only those that are qualified to live in government quarters, will be the ones to stay.
Last Friday’s notice from the ministry of Housing on the eviction matter is a follow-up on the earlier press statement from the commissioner in the first quarter of 2012, stating the resolve of government to evict all illegal occupants of government residences.
