Alan Pardew Praises ‘Electric’ Newcastle Striker, Papiss Cisse
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew praised Papiss Cisse’s “electric” form as he revealed the club are now targeting a late push for the top four.
The Senegal striker scored twice as Newcastle beat Swansea 2-0 at the Liberty Stadium at the weekend.
Fifth-placed Newcastle now on the same points behind Tottenham in the Premier League after their fifth consecutive win.
“We weren’t brilliant, we were a bit flat, but Cisse was electric,” he said.
“We have a guy in red-hot form and that was the difference between the sides.”
“He had a fantastic record in the Bundesliga with a club that were struggling, so he is no mystery. He is a player with pedigree”
Alan Pardew on £9.5m signing Papiss Cisse Pardew praised the sublime chip for Cisse’s second goal, which sealed the victory with 21 minutes remaining.
“His second goal – it was like a Masters golf shot,” he said. “I thought it had gone over in mid-air, but it had that bit of backspin on it. It was a terrific finish.”
Pardew feels that the £9.5m January signing from Freiburg, who has now scored nine goals in his last eight games, was the star player in a match that the home side dominated in terms of possession.
“When you play Swansea you won’t get 20 chances, as they keep the ball so well, so the strikers have to keep their focus,” he said.
“They may get just one chance and he was focused on those two chances and did not let us down.
“He had a fantastic record in the Bundesliga with a club that were struggling, so he is no mystery. He is a player with pedigree.”
Pardew acknowledges that he is now targeting a top-four finish with six games of the season remaining.
“I always said the last 10 games are the most important, and if we were to get to the last six [and be in a good position] we would give it a go,” he said.
“We have now won four out of four to put us in a position that elevates us to better form than we expected, but there is a belief in the group.”

Iwobi Optimistic On S’Eagles Qualification
Iwobi spoke to Tidesports source ahead of Nigeria’s crunch playoff semi-final against Gabon on Thursday, November 13, in Rabat, Morocco.
The 28-year-old was reacting to Nigeria’s shaky World Cup qualifying campaign that saw the Eagles finish second in Group C behind South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
“We’ve managed to rescue ourselves from the dead,” Iwobi told Tidesports source.
We know we have the players and the abilities to compete against any other country in the world.”
The Fulham star pointed to Nigeria’s star power, highlighting African Footballer of the Year winners Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen as proof of the squad’s quality.
“We have last year’s African best player (Ademola Lookman), the year before that (Victor Osimhen),” he said.
“It’ll be a shame if we don’t make it, but we have a lot of confidence. We just have to prove it to ourselves.”
Nigeria’s path to the United States, Canada and Mexico has been turbulent, with two coaches departing during the early stages of qualifying before Éric Chelle steadied the ship to steer the Super Eagles into November’s CAF playoffs.
Four nations from the continent – Nigeria, Cameroon, DR Congo and Gabon – will vie for a solitary spot to compete in next March’s inter-confederation playoffs, with a view to joining the already nine qualified African nations at the Finals.
It would mark Iwobi’s second appearance at the World Cup Finals and the Super Eagles’ first since the 2018 edition of the competition.
Back then, Iwobi featured in all three games as Nigeria was knocked out in the group stage.
