RSG To Test-Run Software System, March 22
Rivers State Government, says arrangement has reached an advanced stage to test-run its payroll software system.
The state Commissioner of Finance, Dr Chamberlain Peterside said this while addressing newsmen in Port Harcourt over the week.
Peterside, hinted that the exercise would kick-start on March 22, 2012 after an official unveiling of the payroll office.
According to him, the software system would handle the management of civil servants service payroll from May this year after the successful test-running of the system.
The commissioner said the process would involve the generation of monthly salary figures by Zenith Bank and his ministry repeatedly for the next two months.
He was confident that the new software system would guarantee accuracy of the monthly salary figures and address other related issues.
The Tide reliably gathered that the system has been on course since July last year, while the state government has invested huge resources for its equipping and other logistics.
It was also gathered that the Ministry of Finance has put in place an automated and effective payroll software system designed to arrest and solve the issue of ghost workers.
The initiative was part of efforts by the present administration to build public finance institutions in the state.
Earlier, the Finance Commissioner had said that the administration of all payroll matters would be handled internally by his ministry as soon as the system begins full operation.
