NATCOMS Tasks NCC On Number Portability
President of National Association of Telecommunications Subscribers (NATCOMS), Chief Deolu Ogunbanjo, yesterday said the September date for the implementation of the number portability was too far
Ogunbanjo told The Tide in Lagos that the implementation date should be before September.
He urged the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to hasten its implementation to tackle the menace of incessant drop calls and poor data service delivery among operators.
Ogunbanjo said that the appeal was necessary because subscribers could no longer bear the poor services of the operators.
The NCC in February said that the implementation of the number portability would begin in September.
The NATCOM president said that most times subscribers did not get value for their money on calls made within the same network, let alone call to other networks.
He advised NCC to expedite action on the implementation of number portability to enable subscribers get value for for their money.
Ogunbanjo said that the number portability would guarantee quality services because subscribers could switch to other networks without losing their unique numbers.
“Once an operator knows he will lose his subscribers to other networks, such operator will be up to the task of improving his operations,” he said.
He said that subscribers would no longer accept shoddy services and high tariffs.
Ogunbanjo reiterated that the number portability would also boost the cashless policy of the Federal Government because users of Point of Sales (POS) machines would get better services to drive transactions.
