A’ Ibom To Partner Private Sector On Industralisation
The Akwa Ibom State Government says it will collaborate with the private sector to realise its ‘dream’ of industrialisation.
The Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Godswill Akpabio on Power, Dr Victor Udo, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Uyo.
Udo said that one of the state government’s areas of focus in ensuring better living conditions for the people of the state was the power sector.
“There have been industries in Nigeria and Akwa Ibom in the past but most of them collapsed partly due to unstable power supply.”
Udo explained that in order to establish and sustain industries, steady power was crucial.
He added that the measure for the collaboration was part of the government resolve to promote private investment and boost economic activities.
Udoh said that the state government had made investments in a gas processing and pipeline that would deliver gas to the generating plant and for other end-use consumption.
The senior special assistant further said that the state government was committed to transforming the power sector in the state.
“Proper maintenance and day-to-day operation of the power sector is necessary for uninterrupted power supply.’’
He called for patience from the people, saying that the power sector transformation would require time to overcome the several years of neglect in the distribution and transmission.
Udo further said that rural electrification initiative of the state government had made it possible for more villages in the state to be connected to the power grid through the installation of transformers.
