Group Wants ICT In Prisons
The Rivers State Government, has been urged to establish an Information Communication Technology (ICT) centre at various prisons in the state in order to carry prisoners along in its ICT schemes.
The president of Niger Delta Coalition Against Violence (NDCAV), Comrade Christian B. Lekia said this while chatting with newsmen in Port Harcourt during the week.
Lekia said a standard ICT centre at various prison yards would enable inmates to watch and understand some global activities and encourage them on the need to turn a new leaf.
He was of the view that anyone who is not properly informed may continue in his/her usual life, saying that the time to turn prison inmates to better citizens is now.
The NDCA leader stressed that some prisoners are still “good members of the public”, and should be treated n like manner.
He also called on the Federal Government to do same in all federal prisons so that inmates can have a sense of belonging upon their release from the prison.
Lekia regretted that Nigerian prisons are yet to produce a world class scholar in any field due to lack of internet facilities at the prisons.
He recalled how other countries of the world use prisons to rehabilitate their citizens and bring them out as rebranded.
