Yuletide: NIPOST Records Low Patronage
The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) is facing low patronage this yuletide due to the increasing number of cell-phone and internet users in the country.
Our reporter who visited some post offices in Rivers State, reports that most of its staff are less busy as nothing seems to be happening there.
We were told by some staff in one of the NIPOST offices that patronage became terribly low this yuletide as people pay more ttention to the short message system (SMS) and other current means of expressing their love/care for their loved ones this seasons.
Our reporter, also reports that some parcels were received by the staff on ground with few letters.
We also learnt that some items like soup thickener and other locally made items are sent to some foreign and African countries through the services of the NIPOST.
Some customers who were at the place, said the prices of sending parcels this season were fair compared to that of past years.
The Tide gathered that NIPOST remains the safest means to send and receive parcels due to genuine nature of services.
Concerning when the NIPOST will be ICT driven, some staff said the Federal Government is seriously planning to make all NIPOST offices in the country an ICT centre in order to meet the current global ICT challenges.
All efforts by our reporter to reach the manager, public relations NIPOST, Territorial Headquarters, Port Harcourt, Mr Godwin Akpan on phone proved abortive, as he did not respond to the calls.
