C’ River Agency, Disburses N31m To 21 Communities
The Cross River State Community and Social Development Agency, says it has disbursed a total sum of N31 million to 21 communities in the state.
The agency’s General Manager, Mr Victor Ovat, said the beneficiaries met the agency’s requirements before they were issued with cheques for the commencement of their projects
According to sources, communities that have benefited include Unwapu, Ukparibu, Olokpa, Ububa Ukum, Ukpah in Bekwarra, Eyabom in Obubra, and Nsimagbe.
Others include Arobom, Ofunipkpang, Ababene, Iyamoyong, Nselle, Adijinkpor, Okwabang, Eshiagurubeh in Boki, and Ibini in Biase.
The rest are Alesi-Nkpanwogha in Ikom, Enugwehuma in the Abi Local Government Area, as well as Utukpo, Okpenehi and Ujama in Yala Local Government Area.
Ovat said 85 communities had so far benefited from the programme and described the programme as a feat that had been unequalled so far in Nigeria.
“The programme was initiated by Gov. Liyel Imoke of Cross River to reach out to the rural poor with a view of alleviating their status,” he said.
The general manager said the programme was also aimed at ensuring that necessary amenities were made available in the urban centres and for the rural dwellers.
He said the agency was set to maintain the lead as it would leave no stone unturned to actualise its goals and aspirations, and called for the support and co-operation of benefiting communities.
Ovat said communities that were able to finish their projects in record time could access more funds to embark on more projects to enhance the status of their respective communities. He however, warned against sharp practices and said the agency would not condone misappropriation and other vices that would be inimical to the growth and development of the programme.
The general manager assured that the agency would have by this December reached about 100 communities in the state.
“This is to spread development evenly, give succour to the rural populace and make life more meaningful,” he said. Ovat disclosed that more than 400 communities in the state have already expressed their interest to embark on several projects.
He advised that projects must be maintained by their host communities and completed to meet very high standards.
Ovat said the agency had incorporated tree-planting into its programmes to support the state government’s war against deforestation.
