Commissioner Assures On Adequate Information In Rivers
The Commissioner of Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari has promised to ensure that Rivers people are always informed of government policies and programmes.
Mrs. Semenitari gave the assurance while receiving a delegation of Rivers/Bayelsa branch of Uniben Alumni Association during a courtesy visit on her.
She explained that government owes it a duty to listen to the people, and that Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi is always prepared to listen.
The commissioner commended the members for their efforts at piloting the affairs of the Association, pointing out that, “Alumni play central roles in the development of their alma mater and also ensure that the society does not fail”.
Mrs. Semenitari noted that University of Benin has groomed good christians who have become general overseers of popular churches citing Christ Embassy as an example.
Earlier in his address, the chairman, Pastor David Aluya-Ovih said they were in the ministry to felicitate with her on her re-appointment as commissioner.
He commended her on the way she has managed the present administration in the state, adding that the association is proud of her.
Pastor Aluja-Ovih, further told the commissioner that a letter has been sent to the state government for the allocation of parcel of land to the body at Greater Port Harcourt City Project to build an Alumni Centre.
He appealed to the Commissioner to assist them in furthering their request to the governor.
The Branch Chairman solicited the support of the Commissioner for their campaign on “War against reckless driving” which they intend to carry to motor parks across the state to educate drivers on the ethics of good driving.
In his brief remark, the Project Committee Chairman, Mr. Festus Otasowie thanked the Commissioner for the reception and assured her that, “they would maintain their standard” at Uniben, adding that he was glad that people “still have their core values even in government”.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
