Don Wants Nigeria, Cameroon To Explore Potentials
A university don and President, of Cameroon Community in Nigeria (CCN), Prof. Samuel T. Wara has charged governments of Nigeria and Cameroon to rekindle efforts at exploring and exploiting abundant potentials of both countries especially in the areas of trade, industry, education and governance to better the lots of their citizenry.
Prof. Wara, in an exclusive interview with The Tide, said the 21st century bilateral relationship between Nigeria and Cameroon should focus more on and encourage open border for free flow of persons, business ideas and opportunities, transportation and cultural exchange that would form the block of building both countries.
The University don spoke to The Tide in Port Harcourt shortly after a one-day Mini-summit of Cameroon Peoples Democratic Movement (CPDM), Nigeria section at the Rivers State capital.
Prof. Wara, dean, Abdusalam Abubakar College of Engineering Igbonedion University, Okada, Bein City, however, expressed gratitude to Nigerian government for giving Camerooms in Nigeria “an opportunity to have another home out of home”.
The CCN President used the occasion to re-affirm the commitment in providing scholarship scheme to deserving Cameroonians and non-scholarship grants for every registered Cameroonian in Nigeria.
According to him, 400 students of Cameroon origin have benefited from the non-scholarship grant in the first trench, adding that new application are being processed.
The Vice Cousul, Cameroon Consulate Nigeria, Mr. Etchu Anoma Bates, in another exclusive interview with The Tide, explained that the CPDM Mini-summit in Port Harcourt was designed to solicit the total support and cooperation of Cameroonians in diaspora in the government of President Paul Biya.
Mr. Bates called for continuous unity of Cameroonians in diaspora, adding that “there lies their strength in diversity. He also charged them not to relent in contributing their quota in building a prosperous nation of Cameroon.
The Vice Consul said Cameroonians in Nigeria were committed in building both countries describing the CPDM Mini-summit as successful as it rekindled the patriotism amongst Cameroonians in Nigeria for nation building.
The fallout of the summit was the establishment of a National Execo Bureau that would steer the activities of the party in Nigeria.
The new National President of CPDM, Sir Polycarp Ndounteng was full of praises for the cordial relationship between Nigeria and Cameroon, and called for sustained ties to boost economic growth of both countries.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
