Chairman-Elect Promises To Give Transportation Priority
The Chairman-Elect of Andoni Local Government Area, Mr Orom Nte Ereforiokuma, has said transportation will top his agenda in a bid to assuage the suffering of his people. Ereforiokuma in an interview with pressmen in Port Harcourt yesterday, said that the Andonis have suffered much in the area of transport due to poor attention by local authorities.
He said that he will achieve his target by ensuring that the Unity Road gets to Andoni in the nearest future.
According to him, more roads will be constructed in the local government area so that the dividend of democracy will be more visible in the area.
Another reason for the planned transport enhancement was to limit marine accident in the area.
He was of the view that marine accident has claimed much lives in the place, stressing that improved land transportation system will drastically reduce loss of lives in his domain.
The Chairman-Elect, also pointed out an improved transportation system will also boost economic activities in the area, as farmers and fishermen will have easy access to the markets.
As a back-up, some Andoni people have called on the chairman to ensure that organised transport system was established in the area.
They urged that the Andonis have, over the years, suffered in the hands of some greedy transporters (both land and marine), saying that the chairman-elect should ensure that his council provides nice transportation system that will take care of the transportation challenges in the area.
Earlier, they have also appealed to the chairman-elect, not to appoint miscreants as transport officers in the place, adding that they may double the suffering of the people.
