Community Leader Wants PHCBS In Rural Areas
The operators of the Port Harcourt City Bus Service (PHCBS) have been urged to extend their services to rural communities in the state in order to meet up with the aspirations of the people.
The Community Development Chairman of Omuchi (Igwuruta) in Ikwerre Local Government, Mr Ecko Opara said this on Tuesday in Port Harcourt while fielding questions from newsmen.
Opara, who described the PHCBS scheme as one of the best decisions of the Amaechi government, said that its aim may be defeated if rural areas were not benefiting from the scheme.
He pointed out that the scheme would aid business growth if extended to rural areas.
According to him, it will enable local traders to access Port Harcourt City to sell off their goods.
The Omuichi CDC boss, also demanded for the establishment of a standard motor park in the area where commuters could board buses.
He frowned at the idea of harassing transporters on the road in the name of illegal parking, saying that the state government should intervene and restore normalcy to the transport sector.
He also stated that the government should consider training of drivers and conductors as part of efforts to step up actions in the transport industry.
While congratulating the governor for his second term in office, he appealed that more attention should be paid in the area of employment generation so as to provide solution to the unemployment situation in the state.
