Civil Servants Demand Promotion Arrears
The Joint Negotiating Council of Civil service Unions (JNCCSU) has called on the Rivers State Government to ensure prompt promotion and payment of civil servant arrears in the state.
The call was made by chairpersons of JNCCSU, Mrs Juliet Berewari during an interactive forum between Governor Amaechi and Civil Servants, yesterday, in Port Harcourt.
Mrs Berewari, who also called for lifting of employment embargo in the state civil service lamented that many civil servants do not receive their promotion arrears even after three years of being promoted.
She highlighted the need for training and retraining of civil servants, saying that it was one way the government could boost efficiency and manpower development in the service.
The JNCCSU chief decried the poor housing provision for civil servants in the state, recalling that since 1999 when the Igbo-Etche Housing Estate was allocated to civil servants, not much has been done to upgrade infrastructure in the estate.
She commended the state governor for initiating the forum as it would afford him the opportunity to get first –hand information on the plight of civil servants.
