As part of efforts to encourage women participation in manufacturing, production and develop their entrepreneurial skills, Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi has concluded plans to develop and revive Rivlux Paints in the state.
The factor located at Ministry of Women Affairs, and run mainly by women drawn from the ministry,is expected to flourish in 2010 with the renewed insterest of the state government.
Apparently to use the paint factory as a ready avenue to grow the economy of women in Rivers State, the Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI) an NGO founded by wife of the Rivers State Governor, Judith Amaechi, has commenced training R of female painters to provide auxiliary services for the factory.
Mrs Amaechi noted that Pivlux Paint has gained market acceptance in the state, and further urged the federal government to provide incentive for local manufacturers.
The minister of Commerce and Industry, Chief Achike Udenwa, who was moved by the initiative, has promised to facilitate the certification of the paint factory by Standard Organiation of Nigeria (SON), the regulatory body for quality industrial standards.
The Tide learnt that the SON certification of the paint brand, after thorough standardisation test, would place it with the NIS award, making it a credible Nigerian paint brand worth patronising by citizens and foreigners alike.
Chief Udenwa noted that the Federal Government has initiated a trade policy aimed at encouraging local industries to achieve maximal standards in products quality, the reason why the commerce and industry ministry has been advocating for patronage of locally manufactured products.
He maintained that Rivlux Paint, initiated by Rivers State Ministry of Women Affairs, was a right step to enthroning economic empowerment of women.
Earlier, the state commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Chief Ogbonna Nwuke, had assured that the State Government would continue to support the project with a view to achieving its diversification policy.

BVN Enrolments Rise 6% To 67.8m In 2025 — NIBSS
The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) has said that Bank Verification Number (BVN) enrolments rose by 6.8 per cent year-on-year to 67.8 million as at December 2025, up from 63.5 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2024.
In a statement published on its website, NIBSS attributed the growth to stronger policy enforcement by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the expansion of diaspora enrolment initiatives.
NIBSS noted that the expansion reinforces the BVN system’s central role in Nigeria’s financial inclusion drive and digital identity framework.
Another major driver, the statement said, was the rollout of the Non-Resident Bank Verification Number (NRBVN) initiative, which allows Nigerians in the diaspora to obtain a BVN remotely without physical presence in the country.
A five-year analysis by NIBSS showed consistent growth in BVN enrolments, rising from 51.9 million in 2021 to 56.0 million in 2022, 60.1 million in 2023, 63.5 million in 2024 and 67.8 million by December 2025. The steady increase reflects stronger compliance with biometric identity requirements and improved coverage of the national banking identity system.
However, NIBSS noted that BVN enrolments still lag the total number of active bank accounts, which exceeded 320 million as of March 2025.
The gap, it explained, is largely due to multiple bank accounts linked to single BVNs, as well as customers yet to complete enrolment, despite the progress recorded.
