Stiff Penalty Awaits Indolent Teachers – RSUBEB
The Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board (RSUBEB) has threatened to sanction any teacher who absconds from duty.
The Executive Chairman of the Board, Sir Alli Oruitemeka who said this during a meeting with teachers from Eleme Local Government Area in his office, said that the era when some teachers combined their job with other business was over, warning that the present board would not hesitate to punish any teacher found guilty of dereliction of duty.
Sir Oruitemeka said that any teacher who is no more interested in his duty should honourably resign his appointment noting that the board is now determined to move the education sector forward.
According to him, the huge investment in the sector by the Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi led government in the state must be reciprocated by all.
The board chairman who later undertook an unscheduled visit to some schools in the area also described as saddening a situation where virtually all teachers were absent from school and wondered what becomes of the children when the teachers are not around to control them.
According to him, the revolution in the educational sector calls for commitment and dedication on the part of teachers, adding that their attitude would determine the future of the country and appealed to them to be prepared to produce children that could compete with others.
Sir Oruitemeka said that the board would from time to time meet with teachers in the state to brainstorm on how to move the sector forward.
Also speaking, the Board Member II, Hon Dominic Ironee warned that the present board was not ready to tolerate any teacher who was not willing to work
