Distributors Condemn Proliferation Of “Mushroom” Newspapers
The Rivers State Chapter of the Newspapers Distribution Association of Nigeria (NDAN), says it is worried over the proliferations of mushroom papers in the State.
The state president of the association, Chief Titus Ezeh, said this when members of the associations paid a courtesy call on the General Manager of the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, Mr. Celestine Ogolo in his office.
Chief Ezeh said that the association is particularly disturbed as most of the mushroom papers keep churning out to the public lies, a situation undermining the credibility of Newspaper distributors.
He, however, said that the association is working in conjunction with the relevant security agencies to ensure thorough screening to ensure that irrelevant ones are phased out of the streets.
The NDAN President also used the occasion to inform the general manager of some of the problems facing them such as lack of office space amongst others.
He said that the association has become one of the largest employers of labour positing that 90 percent of members are indigenes of Rivers State.
Chief Ezeh also said that the present executive of NDAN in the state plans to celebrate its first 100 days in office and solicits for support.
Responding, the General Manager of the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation (RSNC), Mr. Celestine Ogolo, briefed them on the effort being made by management to resuscitate The Tide Newspapers and described the visit as very timely.
Mr. Ogolo also commended them for the effort to scrutinise newspaper business in the state as that would save them from seeing some of its members from landing in jail.
He promised to channel their request for office space to the appropriate authority.
