Physically Challenged Persons Allege Neglect By Council, Firms
Physically challenged persons in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, have decried their continuous neglect by both the authorities of Andoni Local Government council and multinational companies operating in the area.
President of Andoni Disabled Advancement, Comrade Brown Nkunkpo Sauf who disclosed this in an exclusive interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt said successive administrations in Andoni Local Government Area had not made any programme to improve the conditions of physically challenged persons in the area.
“We have written series of letters to the council for it to integrate us into its activities but no reply.
“I want to say that since the creation of Andoni Local Government Area, no physically challenged person has occupied any position in that council” adding that the situation has deprived them of having a voice in the affairs of the council.
“We are sidelined in terms of employment and others.” He said.
Saul said their request for a meeting with the council chairman Paul Lawrence Paul was also turned down.
He said his members were roaming the area for alms and stressed the need for the Andoni Local Government Council to create an office for persons with disabilities while their members be appointed as advisers to the council.
He also called on the first class chiefs in Andoni to come to their aid, while companies operating in the area should absorb most of their members into their services as some of them have the requisite qualifications to work in all companies in the state.
The group chairman also called on the leadership of Obolo youth coalition to come to their aid.
